“Emmett” Opus 45, No. 4

There are 4 tracks to the audio and 1 visual stream of images to this piece.

Audio:

1) the original poet discussing his poem which I used as text for the Song.

2) an unedited capture of a few minutes of Georgia Public Radio which referred to current events and a general tone of the nation on the day I compiled the collage.

3) The Song itself performed in 1995 at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University.

4) a continuous live recording of a single mosquito which I personally find very relevant to the piece.

Visual:

The visual element combines images of current events, and images of places and things based on an imagined route the Till’s may have taken on their journey from Chicago to Mississippi.
